### Summary
**About the Position:**This is a Safety Technician position located in the Installation Management Command, Fort Polk, Louisiana. The surrounding community is comprised of the towns of Leesville, DeRidder, New Llano, and Anacoco. The nearest cities are Alexandria (45 miles northeast) and Lake Charles (55 miles south). The area is considered rural with the Kisatchie National Forest, which offers hunting and recreational activities, located nearby. Also located nearby are Toledo Bend Lake, Vernon Lake and Anacoco Lake for those interested in fishing, boating, swimming, etc.

### Responsibilities
* Disseminating weather warnings and advisories through the Local Weather Network System to all units and personnel in the training complex
* Operating and maintaining five (5) nets UHF/VHF, OCCS and FM radios base stations in order to monitor training areas
* Conducting on-site inspections of training areas ensuring that compliance with local safety policies, environmental programs and Federal Regulations are being enforced
* Monitoring the use and access to live fire facilities, maneuver areas, ranges, and impact areas
* Tracking all civilian contractors and DOD personnel within assigned area
* Briefing safety measures to various audiences
* Issuing down range clearances
* Using a computer system to maintain, store, and input information in order to track land and range use, ammunition utilization and data

* This position requires passing the TRADOC Intermediate Safety Course.
* This position is subject to an irregular tour of duty to cover an 8 to 12 hour-a-day period (must be able to work on rotating shifts), 7 days per week operation, to include holidays. Overtime may be required.
* This position is covered by Civilian Drug Abuse Testing Program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R, condition of employment for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program.
* This position requires a pre-employment physical and annual physical thereafter.
* This position requires business travel/TDY up to 5% of the time.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes work that involves (l) identifying, preventing, or eliminating safety hazards in work methods or environmental conditions; or (2) safety training or promotion. Such experience must have provided a practical knowledge of occupational and environmental safety hazards, survey techniques, and control and preventive methods. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: biological technician, medical technician, engineering technician, fire prevention inspector, and environmental health worker. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
